Among the many sites that Abruzzo offers there are the fomous “trabocchi”, the strange “fishing machine” located in the southern pert of the region.
Completely made in wood, their base is supported by long puncheons, from where the fisherman can batter down the fishnet, and a long catwalk, suppoted by puncheons, bridging the beach thet may be very distant.
Admired during a stormy day, this spectacular fishing machine amazes you for the way they resist the sea storms, even if they have a delicate and precarious look.
The origins are not easy to find, we do not know when were created.
We can assume that people in the past created them for fishing without going directly to sea, imagining that it was easier to fish form there.
Fra le peculiarità esclusive della costa abruzzese, le più note e pittoresche sono le curiose “macchine da pesca” del suo tratto meridionale: i celebri trabocchi.
Completamente in legno, sono composti da una piattaforma, retta da pali, dalla quale il pescatore cala in mare la rete, e da una lunga e ardita passerella, anch’essa su pali, che la collega alla terraferma, distante anche decina di metri.
Ammirate in un giorno di mare in burrasca, queste spettacolari macchine da pesca stupiscono per la loro capacità di resistere alle mareggiate, nonostante l’aspetto fragile e precario.
La loro origine non ha dati certi ed è difficile stabilire con precisione l’epoca in cui i trabocchi sono stati inventati.
Si può ipotizzare che la loro nascita sia derivata dall’esigenza di pescare senza scendere direttamente in mare, intuendo che era più facile pescare da fermi, stando seduti su una passerella collegata alla terraferma.
